All websites, not just WordPress, need to be regularly maintained for them to run smoothly and to lessen the chances of experiencing errors and performance issues.
Since WordPress is an open-source CMS (Content Management System) platform, its components such as themes and plugins are mostly by third-party developers. These have constant updates that you need to check for regularly to make sure everything will run with little or no glitch at all.
